It is not possible to recover a lost mysql password since they are encrypted. But it can always be changed or reset.
To change the root mysql password, login to the VPS Control Panel and select your server, go to the Applications and select MySQL. Click on the Reset Root Password tab and follow the instructions. It's that simple!
