DNS changes don't seem to take effect, what can I do? Print

If you are running into a situation where you have made changes to the DNS records for your domain but the changes don't seem to be immediately visible, it might be due to a DNS caching issue. While DNS changes might take up to 72 hours to propagate throughout the Internet, many times refreshing your local DNS cache might allow you to see your DNS changes immediately. Please try the following if you believe the above applies to your situation:

  • Flush your operating system's DNS cache
    • In Windows, run this command in the Command window: ipconfig /flushdns
    • In Mac OSX, run this command in the terminal:  dscacheutil -flushcache
  • Restart your browser
  • Restart you computer

If after these steps the problem persists, you may want to try a 3rd party DNS provider like Google DNS or OpenDNS. Otherwise you may have to wait until your ISP DNS cache gets refreshed.
